Summer is one of our favorite times of year. Longer days, green parks, and wagging tails make every walk enjoyable—but summer also brings higher temperatures, hot pavement, and increased risks for our four-legged friends.

We Adjust Every Walk to the Weather
No two dogs are alike. Age, breed, fitness level, and health all play a role in determining how much exercise is appropriate on a hot day.
When temperatures rise, our walkers adjust the pace and length of outdoor activity based on each dog’s needs. For some pups, that means a shorter walk followed by indoor playtime, enrichment, or plenty of affection in the air conditioning.
We Watch the Pavement
Sidewalks and asphalt can become much hotter than the air temperature. If the pavement is too hot for us to comfortably touch with the back of our hand for several seconds, it’s too hot for sensitive paws.
Whenever possible, we choose grassy areas and shaded routes to keep paws protected.
Hydration Matters
Every visit includes a fresh water check before we leave. After a warm walk, we always make sure your dog has access to cool, clean water.
We Know the Signs of Heat Stress
Our team is trained to recognize early signs that a dog may be getting too warm, including:
- Excessive panting
- Slowing down or refusing to walk
- Excessive drooling
- Lethargy
- Bright red gums
If we notice any concerns, we immediately shorten the walk, move into the shade or indoors, provide water, and contact you if necessary.
Midday Doesn’t Always Mean a Long Walk
Many people assume every visit needs to include a long neighborhood walk. During the hottest days of summer, that’s not always what’s best for your dog.
Sometimes the safest visit includes:
- A shorter potty walk
- Time in the yard
- Indoor play
- Mental enrichment
- Fresh water and lots of belly rubs
